RoamAD Releases Quad-Band Radio Support for Converged Wireless Networks

The market's most advanced multi-band, multi-radio nodes supporting both Metro Wi-Fi and Public Safety (900 MHz, 2.4, 4.9, and 5 GHz) and an upgrade path to WiMAX are now available from RoamAD

San Francisco, CAAugust 30, 2006—RoamAD, supplier of the world's most flexible converged wireless networks, today announced a new release of its wireless networking software platform with unmatched multi-band and multi-radio support for the rapidly converging municipal Wi-Fi and public safety markets.

The challenge for tomorrow's municipal wireless networks is for them to be sufficiently flexible and functional to support existing and new radio technologies, new application functionality, and the demands of a growing and varied user base – all on the same network infrastructure.

With its latest software release, RoamAD has the most flexible and feature-rich converged wireless mesh solution on the market, enabling its networks to meet this challenge today.

Each RoamAD powered multi-radio node operates up to four radios per node in any combination for 802.11a/b/g and 4.9 GHz public safety networking. The frequency bands supported are 900 MHz, 2.4 GHz, 4.9 GHz, and 5 GHz.

RoamAD networks are also cost-effective as the wireless nodes are built from best-of-breed, standards-based components.

"RoamAD-based converged wireless systems offer increased flexibility and superior value when compared to other offerings in the market," said Martyn Levy, RoamAD's CEO.

"RoamAD is re-writing the economics of mesh networking, while at the same time raising the bar in terms of technical features, functionality and over-all network performance," Levy added.

The latest RoamAD software release includes important features such as RoamAD's Inter-node Communication System™, enabling high-speed roaming and smooth hand-off for mobile voice over IP (VoIP), mobile video surveillance/CCTV and smart mobile backhaul. Other important features include remote upgradeability, multiple SSIDs with numerous security, authentication and QoS options, and support for Intel XScale® technology at the core of the nodes. x86 platforms are also supported.

RoamAD compatible multi-radio nodes operate RoamAD's software and are manufactured and supplied by RoamAD OEM Partners and VAR/SI Partners.

RoamAD also announced two new partnerships:

  1. New RoamAD OEM Partner: ADI Engineering of Charlottesville, VA., supplies fully-assembled RoamAD compatible multi-radio mesh nodes as part of its new "Pronghorn Metro" product line. ADI will also supply separately its RoamAD compatible Pronghorn Metro motherboard. See: www.adiengineering.com.
  2. New RoamAD Component Partner: Gateworks Corporation of Atascadero, CA., Gateworks supplies the Avila GW2348 motherboard that can be used as a core component in RoamAD compatible multi-radio nodes. See: www.gateworks.com.
