Highway/railway

RoamAD's wireless networking platform enables the creation of multi-use converged wireless networks operating in the 900 MHz, 2.4 GHz, 4.9 GHz and 5 GHz bands. The networks are ideal for citywide Wi-Fi, public safety, campus hotzones, and highway Wi-Fi implementations.

RoamAD technology enabled the deployment and operation of the world's first highway Wi-Fi network that delivers high-speed voice and data services to customers in vehicles moving at more than 80 mph. This network was deployed on an interstate highway in Arizona in the USA for a project that was funded by the US Department of Homeland Security.

Highway/railway Wi-Fi networks are increasingly being demanded by:

  • Government bodies for the provision of high-speed video, voice and data services to first responders, including law enforcement officers, border and immigration officers, and fire and emergency services
  • ISPs and carriers to provide wireless voice and data services to highway/railway users and to communities close by the highway/railway
  • Mangers of the highways and railways to provide improved real time management information to enhance the operations of the transportation infrastructure

Services that are being deployed on highway/railway Wi-Fi networks include:

  • Road and rail management systems
  • Real time video for traffic management and for security services
  • High-speed mobile voice, data and video services for both users and operators of the transportation system

Using RoamAD technology, highway/railway Wi-Fi networks can be deployed:

  • Faster
  • At lower cost, and
  • With greater flexibility

than with any other approach available today.

RoamAD's carrier-grade wireless network technology and use of multi-radio wireless nodes:

  • Provides support for high-speed mobile voice and data services
  • Results in a scalable network architecture with robust dedicated backhaul supporting QOS, low-latency applications, and fast mobile hand-off
  • Is remotely upgradeable to enable support for new radio technologies (such as WiMAX) and new applications as they emerge
  • Allows the use of low cost, current standards-based hardware available from a range of equipment suppliers
  • Allows for flexible deployment options
  • Includes carrier-grade network management systems and interfaces to carriers' or ISPs' backend systems

With RoamAD technology, highway and railway Wi-Fi networks can be deployed with a broad range of options to quickly and cost-effectively deploy a Wi-Fi network with unmatched flexibility, upgradeability and service options.
